BRIEF HISTORY
Scoil Eimear first opened its doors to pupils on 27th April 1987. Since then it has progressed from a mere twelve Junior Infants and one teacher to over two hundred and thirteen students.
Scoil Eimear is situated in a prime location in the parish of Templemichael/Ballymaccormack, just on the outskirts of Longford Town. Despite its prime location Scoil Eimear offers a safe environment for children by being located just off the main road. Scoil Eimear offers a great community spirit to students. This was shown back in 1987 when the parishioners met a lot of the construction costs of the school.
Scoil Eimear was given its name at a meeting of the parish council. Fr. Pat Earley who had put a lot of work into the school. St. Emer, daughter of Milchú (St. Patrick’s master) had brought the faith to Clonbroney which was Fr. Earley’s native parish. For this reason and the fact that other schools were named after male saints, the name Scoil Eimear was chosen. Scoil Eimear was opened under the guidance of Principal Mícheál Mac a’Bhaird. His successor was Noeleen Rooney until June 2011. The current holder of this position is Martina McCormack, who along with the other members of staff promote and encourage the school’s motto “Loyalty and Friendship Forever”.
